Cellulite

Cellulite is a skin condition that causes skin to become lumpy and dimpled. It looks like cheese or orange peel texture and it is more noticeable if you pinch the affected areas. Areas that can be affected are the: thighs, hips, buttocks, and stomach. It is generally harmless and is very common amongst both men and women.

There is not a lot of knowledge around what causes cellulite to happen. Genetics play a role in whether you can have this condition but it generally affects one during old age. Factors of lifestyle may also play a role, such as: smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, dehydration, and a slow metabolism.

Cellulite occurs when the fibrous connective cords tie the skin to the underlying muscle and fat cells accumulate. While the cords pull down, the fat cells push up against the skin.

There are different procedures to either hide the cellulite or to treat it entirely. Laser treatments, like Cellulaze, thicken the skin to hide the cellulite. Subcision treatments, like Cellfina, involve having a needle inserted under the skin to remove the bands under the skin. Vacuum-assisted precise tissue release breaks up bands under the skin as well. A device will be used to cut the bands with small blades. After this happens, the tissue moves to fill the dimpled skin from before. Carboxytherapy is a procedure where carbon dioxide (CO2) gets inserted under the skin. There are also several creams and lotions that may help with cellulite.

The side effects of any of these procedures may include:

  • Returning dimpling
  • Discomfort
  • Temporary bruising
  • Areas of hardness
  • Discoloration
  • Swelling

Hair Loss

Androgenic alopecia is the medical term for the loss of hair. Hair loss is when hair is: falling out gradually, thinning, or not regrowing. Both men and women can experience hair loss. This may occur because: old age, genetics, stress, poor diet, chemotherapy, insufficient nutrients, or smoking. To prevent hair loss from worsening, you would need to stop doing such things.

There are different types of hair loss patterns. Hair can: gradually get thinner on the top of your head, get patchy bald spots, suddenly become loosen, or grow scalp patches.

There are many solutions to fix hair loss. You can treat it surgically and non-surgically. There are over-the-counter medications to help with growth and there are certain shampoos/conditioners that help keep hair healthy.

Hair transplant surgery is a surgical procedure where the area with no hair gets filled in with areas that have hair. There are two methods of the transplant: follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) and follicular unit extraction (FUE). During FUSS, the surgeon takes hair from the back of your hair and sews the gap back closed. Then the hair gets divided into up to 2000 different grafts. Then those grafts get placed onto the area where there is hair loss. During FUE, the back of your scalp will get shaved. After that, the hair follicles will get removed one by one.

Both of these procedures can take 4-8 hours. Your scalp will be very delicate and you will need to take pain medications every day. You will have to wear a bandage over your scalp for several days. It usually takes 2-5 days to return to work after the procedure. The transplanted hair will fall out after 2-3 weeks and it may take up to a year to fully grow all the hair back. If you still lose hair after the procedure or want it to be thicker, you would need to get another surgery.

Bleeding and infection is a risk that may occur too. Scarring may occur and the growth may look unnatural.

Fat Reduction

Being overweight has many factors. These factors vary from: genetics, diet, exercise patterns, medication taken, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and psychological conditions. When someone is excessively overweight, it is called obesity. Obesity is a national epidemic in the United States. 1/3rd of the US population is obese. Since 1992, obesity has affected 10x as many people.

There are many solutions to solve being overweight but they may take a long time. Some good ways to lose weight are to: eat healthy, exercise daily, and drink water. If you are unable to lose weight even after doing these, surgery is possible.

The surgical procedures should be a last resort, however they are still reliable. There are different ways to perform these procedures for the different areas. A liposuction removes extra fat in the body by attaching a vacuum under the skin. A tummy tuck is done by removing fat from the abdomen and the skin gets arranged back onto the repositioned contours for a smoother, tighter look. A facelift is done by elevating the skin in the face and sculpting the fat.

The side effects of any of these procedures include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Tingling
  • Soreness

Under Eye Bags

When the muscles and tissue structures under your eyelids weaken, there is less support for your eyes and this causes bags under your eyes. This may happen because you may: not get enough sleep, not drink enough water, not clean your eyes well, smoke too much, drink too much alcohol, use too much makeup, stay in the sun too much, consume too much salt, or you may be getting old. It may be a hereditary condition as well.

If you are considering getting surgery, you should consider finding the cause of your eyebags and making lifestyle changes to get rid of them. Simultaneously, you should try home treatments. Ice packs and cucumber slices work well for cooling the area and reducing blood flow. Caffeine works as well as it is a vasoconstrictor and constricts the blood vessels in the eye area. Noninvasive solutions similar to scar treatments can smooth the area. Fillers, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels are all good methods.

If all treatment fails to work, surgery is always a choice. The procedure in which the lower eye gets a lift is called a blepharoplasty. Before the surgery, an anesthesiologist will apply local anesthesia and may possibly give sedative medications. During the surgery, the surgeon cuts open the creases of the eyelids and removes all excess fat. Immediately after, the surgeon will apply stitches.

The side effects of any of these procedures include:

  • Light sensitivity
  • Double vision
  • Watery eyes
  • Bruising
  • Inflammation
  • Discomfort

Loose Skin

Your skin is copious in collagen and elastin when you are born. These proteins are responsible for the structure of your skin. When the production of these proteins slows down, your skin starts to lose its tightness. Other than aging, having loose skin may be the result of weight loss or sun exposure.

Treatments for skin tightening can make loose or excess skin tight again.  One may get a procedure in order to have a young appearance again. There are surgical and nonsurgical procedures to reduce sagging. The reason most people prefer receiving nonsurgical procedures is because: it is safer, it is cheaper, and there is an easier recovery.

It is possible to tighten the entire body through various methods. Radiofrequency (Thermalift, Thermage, and Elixis) is an in-office method of skin tightening where a device applies radio waves to the loose skin to make it tight. Intense pulsed light (Velashape) is also an in-office method of skin tightening where a device shrinks the fat cells. Ultrasound therapy is a method that can be used at home where ultrasound waves go inside of the skin, and restore collagen production.

The surgical procedures are usually more reliable but they require a lot more work.

Scars

When skin is damaged or lost, the body naturally heals it. With the fibrous tissue usually composing the skin, the mark left is called a scar. There are many different types of scars that get formed for various reasons and they can appear anywhere on the body. A scar cannot be removed, however there are procedures that can minimize the appearance and pain of one. The lighter a scar is, the easier it would heal, and it is less likely for the scar to get more severe. Because of the structure of a scar, it looks different from normal skin.

A concern that may come from having scars is having one suddenly appear with no source. You should call a dermatologist if this is the case as it is a symptom of skin cancer. The type of scar and the severity potential is dependent on multiple factors: age, genetics, type, size, location, color. There are five main types of scars: normotrophic, atrophic, hypertrophic, keloid, and contracture.

Normotrophic scars are very light and are usually not a concern. Atrophic scars form when healing occurs under the skin. They usually result from cystic acne and may come from chickenpox as well. The three types are: icepick, boxcar, and rolling. Hypertrophic scars are thick clusters of scar tissue and may change size or color over time. Keloid scars are larger and more spread out. They typically appear in places with minimal fatty tissue. Contracture scars happen when there is tissue loss, like a burn, and there is no elastin present.

This is a list of treatments for all kinds of scars:

  • Dermabrasion
  • Chemical peels
  • Collagen injections
  • Cortisone injections
  • Cryosurgery
  • Laser resurfacing
  • Punch grafts
  • Surgical scar revision
  • Radiation therapy
  • Ointment
  • Gel
  • Prescription creams

There are other alternative options as well:

  • Scar therapy
  • Biocorneum
  • Laser resurfacing
  • Microneedling
  • Subcision
  • Steroid injections
  • Botox

So here is the good news:
You don’t have to be part of the royal family look and feel your best with baby Botox.
Whether or not Kate Middleton has had baby BOTOX aside, you may be wondering how much this procedure costs and who is the best provider in your area to perform it.

What is Cool Sculpting (CoolSculpting)?

CoolSculpting involves the use of a small or large (or both, depending on which areas are being treated) paddle-like applicator attached to a hose that provides the cold. Regardless of size, each device has 2 panels with 3,000 sensors per side. A gel pad to help protect your skin is placed over the area being treated, and then the CoolSculpting device is applied and powered up. Once on, the applicatorsecurely pulls up the area being treated between the two panels where it remains for the duration of the treatment. After a few minutes, you’ll begin to feel intense cold. Don’t be surprised if the cold rush is accompanied by stinging, tingling, aching, or acramping sensation. This is normal and will lessen (if not go away completely) as the area becomes numb. Your practitioner will ensure you’re comfortable and help get you situated, and then leave you alone to relax as the procedure continues on its own. Through DualSculpting™ we can now treat both sides at once to decrease your total treatment time. This great time-saving approach allows our patients to gain back their valuable time while still receiving the excellent CoolSculpting™ benefits.

What Do You Need To Know About Botox & Dysport?

Botox is most often used on forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet (wrinkles around the outside corner of the eye) and frown lines (wrinkles between the eyes). Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox. The Botox procedure takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required, but can be used if patient desires. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles. Botox results are visible typically seven to ten days after treatment, but for complete result we suggested waiting the recommend full two weeks. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment as well in order to reduce bruising.
The effects from Botox will last four to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax. That is why we recommend coming in every 3 months for your next Botox treatment and not to wait until the full effects of Botox is gone, because the muscles are being trained to stay relaxed.
Dysport: Dysport injections work quite well and the results last 3-4 months before the product wear off. Patients often do it again right away. And depending on the patient, he or she can see results right away. But if the wrinkles have been there for a long time, it can take weeks or months for the results to be noticeable. It is always important to make sure the #Botox or other product is injected by a doctor or licensed nurse. By using these products do require a bit of training and things can go wrong. The most common side effect is tiny bruise at the site of injection. Dysport is particularly used in the upper half of the face, where there are wrinkles created over time by moving muscles in the area. Furrowing your brown or scrunching up your forehead may be expressive during conversation, but it also creates wrinkles.

What is Micro-Blading (MicroBlading)?

Microblading is a techique of making brow hairstrokes by gently drawing a set of slightly curved needles through the epidermal and superficial dermal layer of the skin. Microblading is the new cosmetic phenomenon that has cut down women’s morning prep time since they can eliminate sketching in those perfect brows. Microblading is a semi-permanent brow treatment. It is perfect for replenishing lifeless, sparse or over-plucked brows, or for simply breathing life into lackluster arches, It’s also a great treatment if you’re experiencing hair loss or have been through chemo. The effects are expected to last between three and six months. Instead of a tattoo gun, a pen is used to draw on individual strokes, which mimic real brow hairs to create a natural-looking finish. This is a new and improved form of tattoo artistry, where pigment is implanted in the first layer of the skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine, which has a cleaner finish. Hair-like strokes do not go as deep as traditional permanent cosmetic procedures, creating very fine brow-like hairs, making this procedure the most natural procedure you can get to achieve your desired eyebrows. The treatment is almost pain-free, but a numbing cream is used on the area. This is ideal for those whose eyebrows have been over-plucked or those dealing with concerns that cause hair loss around that area. It produces hairs that are thinner than what comes about through semi-permanent make-up. The pigment will not change in its color either. The realistic and attractive looks will add something special and intriguing for all to watch for. The results can last up to 2 years and will require a ‘refresh’ boost normally between 18-24 months.

What is Micro-Needling (MicroNeedling)?

Micro-Needling the Skin needling provides results similar to laser resurfacing and chemical peels but at a fraction of the cost and with minimal downtime. Each fine needle punctures the skin and creates a tiny channel or micro-wound to the dermis. This controlled micro-injury triggers the body to stimulate fibroblasts and growth factors to fill these micro-wounds with the production of new collagen and elastin. In addition, new capillaries are formed. It is called the New Facelift without going under the knife Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive, non surgical and non ablative procedure for skin rejuvenation. It involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury which in turn ‘helps the skin help itself’. Through the use of ultra-fine needles, it is able to trigger the body’s natural healing process, causing the generation of new collagen and elastin. The result can be healthier, smoother, younger-looking skin. The adjustable depth of needle penetration is what allows MicroNeedling to be used for a variety of treatments. The method of controlled wounding prompts the body to return to the healing phase. It can also be used as an effective way to treat mild scars. The micro-needling technique breaks up the dense collagen fibers of scar tissue and repositions them, which can help to reduce the appearance of the scar.
